The Trumps - Major Arcana

What follows on the page below is truly a brief and basic description of each card in the Major Arcana placed here for informational purposes only.    The Tarot contains references to astrology, numerology, the Kabbalah, and even the Bible.  Time and space limitations prevent further detail on each card.

The Fool: This indicates a lack of planning, Lack of discipline. Reckless abandon.


Reversal: The beginning of an adventure, a news start, or some new element is making an appearance.

The Magician: Skillful and Self confidence, Take the initiative, occult influence.


Reversal: Deception and trickery is involved, betrayal.

The High Priestess: Wisdom, having serene knowledge, demonstrating common sense.


Reversal: Selfish, impatience, demanding.

The Empress: Action and Development, Fertility, Marriage, practical, can also mean Mother, Sister, or Wife.


Reversal: Nagging, tight wad, using feminine guile's.

The Emperor: Realization, World Power, Shows gain or present wealth, strong spirit, Endurance, Can also mean Father, Brother, Son.


Reversal: Inconsiderate and/or dominating, Bearing of Direct pressures, worries about money, illness.

Heirophant: Source of goodness and kindness, good advice, having compassion, showing humility.


Reversal: Fear, too reserved, fear of conviction, refuse to face facts, unable to adapt.

The Lovers: Love, romance, beauty, trials overcame.


Reversal: Adultery, ending of romance, lost of trust, new trails on the horizons

The Chariot: War, and deep troubles, strife and conflict, opposing viewpoints.


Reversal: Possible voyage, journey. Calming of troubles, ending of conflict

Strength: Courage and fortitude, Energetic zeal, action.


Reversal: Peril and danger, warning, lost of freedom. Weakness.

The Hermit: Prudence and withdrawal, caution, loner, insensitive.


Reversal: Breaking out of the shell, more involvement with the world, making friends.

Wheel of Fortune: Approaching a change, end of cycle and the beginning of a new cycle, luck, destiny. Ending of a problem.


Reversal: Fate, beginning of new problems, change of life, bad times.

Justice: Equity, Fair and honorable, good judgment, virtue and virginity.


Reversal: Prejudice and unbalanced. Lack of virtue, un-honorable. Advice, bad judgment.

Hanged Man:  Sacrifice and surrender. feeling or being abandon, transition.


Reversal: A new life approaches, being found, award for sacrifice.

Death: Sudden change, accident, illness, ending, unexpected, lost of a loved one.


Reversal: Release from illness, ending of weirdness, possible blessing in disguised, ending of suffering.

Temperance:  Patience, Accommodating, moderation, Friendship, time for reflection.


Reversal: Unable to compromise,  extreme, un-acceptance of reality, frigidity.

The Devil:  Revenge, violence, adverse magic, bad advice, bondage, ill tempered person.


Reversal: Magic help, uneasy peace, freedom from bondage.

The Tower:  Disruption, destruction, Misery and deception, ruin and termination, chaos and corruption.


Reversal:  Breaking into new areas, rebuilding foundations.

The Star:  Hope, satisfaction, positive prospects, destiny, insight psychic abilities.


Reversal: Easy to influence, Mixing of past and present, drawling in the past.

The Moon:  Caution is advised, Danger ahead, Trickery and deception, Scandal, Bad influences.


Reversal: Danger is passing but still present, known enemies, caution.

The Sun:  Triumph, Happiness, Warmth, affection, achievement in the arts, a new friend.


Reversal: Success although not complete, limited achievements in the arts, lost of a friend.

Judgment:  Determination, decision, results, outcome, forgiveness.


Reversal: Call for repentance, need to forgive, rebirth.

The World:  Perfection, ultimate change, success and assurances rewards.


Reversal:  Lost of perfect, temporary disability, un-fulfillment.
